It has been said that, in the book of Nehemiah, God’s people interact with God through lament, repentance, and celebration. With that in mind, we’re taking four weeks to discuss what that looks like for us as a church family, especially as we prepare our hearts, and minds for the November election.

FASTING PRAYER GUIDE

Coinciding with this series, we’ll be engaging in a 21 day fast (October 2 – 23), where we give up something – or many things –
we might otherwise enjoy, for the purpose of connecting with God in prayer. Here’s a daily prayer guide for those who might find it helpful:

OCTOBER 2-8

This week is about preparing our hearts, and minds, for the next two weeks in particular. In light of that, and to keep things simple, here is a short, structured, meditative prayer to use throughout the week. You can pray this prayer daily, or multiple times each day. Pray it slowly, one line at a time – either silently, or spoken – allowing God to settle your spirit, and speak to you in the process.

Be still, and know that I Am God.
Be still, and know that I Am…
Be still, and know that I…
Be still, and know that…
Be still, and know…
Be still, and…
Be still…
Be.
Be still…
Be still, and…
Be still, and know…
Be still, and know that…
Be still, and know that I…
Be still, and know that I Am…
Be still, and know that I Am God.

OCTOBER 9-15

This week we are focusing on the biblical value of – and our current need to understand, and grow in – lament. Lamenting is defined as the passionate expression of grief, or sorrow; it is to mourn a death, a loss, a trauma. It is an expression of emotional health, and spiritual maturity…the natural, human – and Divine – response to death, loss, pain, suffering, etc. Here is
a suggested prayer guide to help focus our hearts, and minds…ask God for wisdom,
and insight on what you/we need to honestly, and humbly lament –
currently, or historically:

Monday: what do you have/need to lament?

Tuesday: what about your family?

Wednesday: what about us, as Vintage?

Thursday: what about us, as a city?

Friday: what about us, as the state of Kansas?

Saturday: what about us, as a nation?

OCTOBER 16-22

This week we are focusing on the biblical value of – and our current need to understand, and grow in – repentance; specifically corporate repentance. To repent is not simply feel/express a sense of sorrow/
regret for one’s thoughts, or actions, but to actually make a change of heart/mind/
action; it’s to change our way of thinking, and – as such – change our way of living;
it also implies doing what we can to make things right, if the situation calls for it.
Here is a suggested prayer guide to help focus our hearts, and minds…ask God for wisdom, and insight on what you/we need
to honestly, and humbly repent of –
currently, or historically:

Monday: how/where do you need to repent?

Tuesday: what about your family?

Wednesday: what about us, as Vintage?

Thursday: what about us, as a city?

Friday: what about us, as the state of Kansas?

Saturday: what about us, as a nation?
